The Real Intent

I don’t know if I would count today as break free because it was technically an “active recovery day”, but I made it through Pilates Fix without a break.  I can say that the Plank Holds are getting easier and I’m very happy that I was able to get through the Hip Drops without taking a single breather.  Believe me those are not easy, especially when you are trying to maintain your form and not lose your footing as well.

Now this blog discusses a lot about my workouts and how I’m getting back in shape, which is great and all.  However, the real intent of all of this is not just working out, but changing my attitude in life.  As I mentioned in my About page, I’m pretty lazy natured.  I’ve always been that way and parts of it I enjoy, others…not so much.  My personality is very chill and laid back I think and I tend to deal with a lot of things as they come.  I very much like just kicking back and relaxing.

Here is what I don’t like about it though.  Sometimes the relaxing nature gets the best of me to the point where I don’t want to do anything.  So when my wife is stressing out or asks me to do something I tend to get annoyed and turn into a stubborn teenager.  When my kids want to play I send them away.  I become very droned and immobile and I just don’t want to do anything.  I never wanted to go anywhere or spend any time with the family.  I’m just not a very fun person to be around when I’m like that.

This question now is has anything changed.  The answer to that is, Yes!  Most definitely, yes!  I am much more active then I used to be.  I help the wife out more then I used to and she can attest to that.  I’m not on the couch nearly as much as I used to be and I’m more active with my kids.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m still lazy, that will never change, but I’m more active if that makes any sense.  I know its kind of an oxymoron, but its true, just take my word for it.  Basically, I still enjoy relaxing that’s what it boils down to.

I wish I had more time in the day to spend with my kids, but we run a pretty routine house here and sometimes I miss those opportunities because I have something else going on.  Just not enough time in the day.  I can say I’m not as annoyed anymore though and I enjoy being around my kids more than I did before all of this.

The cool part about all of this is that it has only been two and a half weeks since I started all of this and I can already tell a difference in my attitude.  I know that it only gets better from here and I’m excited for it.

Tomorrow is Cardio Fix.  I can tell you right now that if anything gets in this workout it will be the burpees.  My wife may be joining me tomorrow.  If she does I know she is going to blow me out of the water, but lets see if I can’t impress her.  Never know, if I do I may be rewarded later .  That’ll be for me to find out and…well… everyone else will just have to wonder.  Until then, stay true and push through.
